The Congregation
The congregation continues to grow steadily and comprises a broad mix of backgrounds and ages, few of whom live in the ‘Square Mile’ although they may work there during the week. Others travel for an hour or longer, each way, as they live as far a-field as central Essex, south Hertfordshire, and mid Sussex.
Whilst the parish has few residential properties, housing the total of 275 parishioners, 60 or so people regularly attend the weekly Sunday Eucharist, with a growing number of younger couples and Sunday School attendees.
Following each Sunday service, coffee and other refreshments are offered and, typically, a changing mix of some members of the congregation then join the Rector in a light lunch at a location close to nearby St Paul's Cathedral. This pleasurable activity has also helped draw the congregation together into what is now an active, positive and welcoming group of friendly Christians.
Our close links with the many Livery Companies that worship at the church, together with members of Livery companies and some Past Masters within the regular congregation, keep St James close to the centre of the traditions of the City.
